There has been a pretty loud buzz over 3G mobiles in India over the past few months, but will it have something for IT companies to bring them succour in their hour of need?
Since 3G guidelines were announced, SMEs are expecting orders for applications and software development from telecom service providers, hardware vendors and those involved in providing value added services. Orders related to 3G are expected to increase revenues by up to 10%. Currently IT firms do business worth about $4 billion with the telecom sector.
This will benefit not just benefit software developers, chip makers are also going to make fortune out of 3G. India, with a population of 300 million cell-phone users, has only five-million users with 3G-enabled phones. Which means a requirement for millions more 3G enabled phones is on the cards.
Texas Instruments Development director, Jithu Niruthambath, expects 3G to have significant impact on revenues of semiconductor companies like his. He said “As a semi-conductor company, our customers are network suppliers (Ericsson, Nokia Siemens, Huawei) and handset suppliers ( Nokia, SEMC, Motorola). 3G will result in new network equipment deployment and handset sales”, reports Economic Times.
Software developers working on mobile value-added services, are expecting a 20% rise in their revenues from 3G, to enable high-speed, real time multi-player gaming on the mobile phone, which should earn them a fortune in the next 12 months. X |
