Wipro has launched Fit for Life, a comprehensive well being programme for its employees. The main objective of the program is to evaluate and improve the health of its employees.
The programme, launched by Girish Paranjpe, joint CEO of Wipro's IT business, Sangita Singh, senior VP Enterprise Application services and Dr. Thimappa Hedge, generated a lot of energy among Wipro employees.
The programme was launched with an aerobic session that brought cheers from the audience and the company then outlined its take on employee fitness.
Paranjpe, after demonstrating some yoga, said: “18 years back when I had joined Wipro I was asked to do some management based exercise, the importance of which I soon understood. But we often avoid doing any kind of exercise by saying we don’t have time. It is very important for all of us to take some time out for our physical and mental well-being”.

He then demonstrated a simple breathing exercise which he said could be done even while sitting and needs just 20 minutes. Sangita Singh, also didn’t shy away and exhibited her yoga skills. Dr. Hedge spoke about the importance of health in daily life.
To understand why it is so important for those with desk jobs to take some time out for fitness, we asked Raksha, who has been a fitness instructor with Wipro for the past four years.
“The way we work, stress, pollution, unhealthy life style. Everything is just adding to the misery of our health,' said Raksha.' A 35 year old gets a heart attack, which is just bizarre.
'IT is a sector where people hardly do any physical activity, they have cabs to come and go, they live on fast food which is deadly to one’s health. Back pain is an ailment 50% of techies face. So it is of paramount importance for them to take time out for their fitness”, she added. X
