The Kenyan business process outsourcing (BPO) industry is heading towards a more organised framework, as the Kenya BPO Society launches a set of standards and ethics guidelines.
The Kenyan parliament is likely to enact the guidelines. BPO Society chairperson Gilda Odera said they will act as a major marketing tool for Kenya, adding that prospective entrants to the country would feel more comfortable operating in Kenya as a result.
The society has also called for comments from the Kenyan information and communication technologies (ICT) community on operational standards and ethics. The society will work together with the Kenya Bureau of Standards on framing the standards, aiming to adhere to international benchmarks in almost all operational and management aspects.
This marks the second attempt to launch the guidelines, as a previous attempt of Western corporations to involve local companies ended in failure.
The BPO sector, consisting of employees, companies, consultancies and other associates, is welcoming the move. X
