AMD releases Puma, postpones press conference

And other stuff

By Mike Magee @ Wednesday, June 04, 2008 9:45 AM

Chip firm AMD had a press conference from Paris scheduled for, er, now - but has postponed that until 1PM UK time.

But never mind, it obviously has decided to throw up the press release about its new notebook chip anyway, so guaranteeing that quite a few people won't bother to ring Paris later on today.

The notebook chip has an impressively long moniker - the Turion X2 Ultra dual core mobile processor which comes with something called power optimized Hypertransport 2.0, and a memory controller optimized for notebook use.

But this is not just a CPU announcement - it is a 'platform' announcement because the chip is supported by the AMD7 chipsets - M780G and SB700, has integrated ATI Radeon AD 3200 graphics and supports MS Direct X 10.

Broadcom, Atheros and Ralink are providing support for technologies like 802.11n and 3G. X
