Messenger TV to lure social network users

Microsoft hopes to capitalize on the popularity of online videos

By Harsha Pramod @ Tuesday, May 13, 2008 7:31 AM

Software giant Microsoft has launched a new online service called Messenger TV. This service will enable users to watch videos together with other network users and share their views at the same time, rather than just watching videos on their own.

Messenger TV links Windows Live Messenger with video software allowing users can choose from a variety of sources including MTV shows, UK broadcaster, Channel Four and Sony BMG. The service will initially be available in 20 countries.

Microsoft hopes to capitalize on the popularity of online videos to attract users of social networking sites by allowing them to interact at a different level. X
