The Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) has conducted a seminar on implementing searches of medical databases on the internet.
The seminar, a part of a series of workshops on 'digital doctors', was held to make new evidence-based medicine available to the future doctors in the Armed Forces, reported the Express India. Major General G Rajagopal AVSM, dean and deputy commandant of AFMC, feels that information technology is equally responsible for change in lifestyle and the medical profession, and that it has influenced the shift from existing methods of clinical practice to robotic surgery and also introduced distance learning.
AFMC’s computer club has organised a series of workshops to spread awareness among its faculties and students about new developments. The series on digital doctors consists of half-day workshops dealing with topics like clinical video editing, authoring Wikipedia, and using MS Powerpoint effectively. Lt Col Rakesh Datta, officer-in-charge of the workshop, said, 'It will make the newer generation of doctors aware of future challenges and research opportunities.' Similar to courses offered in leading global medical universities, it also allowed undergraduate students to give demonstrations and teach their fellows.
The workshop was attended by more than 50 participants, including cadets and faculty members. X
