Things can only get smaller

Via Technologies has published its new Openbook mini-note reference design aimed at the growing market for ultra-portable notebooks.
The Openbook is based on the Via C7-M ULV processor and the new VX800 chipset. It supports more multimedia features, including a two megapixel dual-headed camera, an 8.9' screen and improved video playback support, in a compact case weighing just 1kg.
'The Openbook builds on the great success of the Nanobook reference design launched last year, which has been widely adopted by numerous customers around the world,' reckons Richard Brown, Via's Vice President of Corporate Marketing.
The mini notebook also features broadband wireless connectivity with the ability to select from a choice of WiMAX, HSDPA and EV-DO/W-CDMA modules. It supports Vista Basic, Windows XP and various Linux distributions.
The reference device features up to 2GB DDR2 DRAM and can be equipped with a choice of hard disk drive or solid state storage. Via reckons the tiny beast can deliver up to three hours of battery life. X
