Section - Outsourcing/Outsourcing | | | | A major theft case has been exposed in the Indian outsourcing sector which puts a big question mark on the security of client’s information. According to a recent report from The Times of India, the owner of Ahmedabad-based Business Bee Solutions, Maulik Dave has stolen vital information of its Florida-based client, Noble Ventures and sold it to its US competitors.
Dave has been accused of stealing 8.5mn records worth Rs. 10m ($236,633). Noble ventures had earlier got into a contract with Business Bee Solutions for website creation and maintenance but later cancelled its contract.
Soon after Noble Ventures cancelled its contract with Dave’s company, the accused shifted the operations to his home in Vejalpur. Dave had tapped into the server of Noble Ventures and sold the details through his partners in crime based in US and Milan.
The Ahmedabad city crime branch raided Dave’s Vejalpur house and arrested him after it received an email from the American company. The assistant commissioner of Police, Usha Rade has confirmed that the US Company informed them after detecting data loss from its server. The information stolen is supposed to have personal and professional details of about 12.5 million Americans.
This theft would raise eyebrows of outsourcers and their clients in deep worry . It seems there is no more safe play in revealing important information to the small BPO players in India. It’s high time to lay down a proper information security mechanism in order to stop this kind of menace.
