Market research firm Isuppli expects the global market for large sized LCD panels to rise by 17.7% in units this year in comparison to 2007.
The steep increase from being 389.8 units shipped in 2007 to an expected projection of 458.9 units of LCD’s in 2008, is because of the increased demand for monitors, notebook PC and television panels. The large-sized LCD panel market is further expected to reach 737.6 million units by 2012, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 13.6 percent from 2007.
Even though the slowdown in the U.S. and other worldwide economies posed demand concerns in 2008, the global LCD market has seen an increase of 40.1% in panel shipment this year compared to 2007.
With Olympic fever catching up fast and slow capacity for expansion in the first half of 2008, its expected that the market for LCD will find it difficult to address the rising demands.
Isuppli expects LCD suppliers to spend about $17 billion in 2008 to increase their capacity. And strong growth will be seen in all three major application markets — TVs, notebooks and monitors. This will drive large-sized LCD revenue into the future. X
