AMD and Qimonda push GDDR5

Speedy chips go into mass production

Qimonda said it has started mass production of GDDR5 graphics memory and AMD will start taking initial volume shipments of the chips.

The chips have a speed of 4Gbps and Qimonda claims it will become the next graphics DRAM standard.

As well as offering better bandwidth, it has power saving attributes. It will be used in high performance desktop graphics card and will later on be adopted in game consoles, said Qimonda. X
