Wants to split the Intel Atom

Chip firm Advanced Micro Devices (AMD) has revealed details of its Yukon reference designs for ultra thin noteboks.

The machines will use the Athlon Neo microprocessor, ATI Radeon X1250 graphics and AMD has a design win in the shape of Hewlett Packard.

HP has released the Pavilion DV2 "Entertainment Notebook" which is less than an inch thick, has a 12.1-inch LED "Brightview" display, a reasonably large keyboard and an optional Blu-ray drive.

The HP machine won't be available until April.

AMD VP Chris Cloran claimed that until the release of its Yukon reference design, people had to choose between a highly portable notebook at a high price, or the limitations of a mini notebook at a low price. X
