Apple joined a list of nine other companies sued by intellectual property owner, Typhoon Touch Technologies. The company had earlier filed a patent infringement suit against Dell in December 2007 and went on to add 9 more companies for stopping these big players from exploiting Typhoon’s IP. Typhoon is high up in portable touch-screen computing.
Typhoon alleged the defendants of infringing two of its patents – US patent no. 5,379,057 (“the ‘057 patent”) dated January 3, 1995 and US patent No. 5,675,362 (“the ‘362 patent”) dated October 7, 1997 – entitled “Portable Computer with Touch Screen and Computer System Employing Same” and “Portable Computer with Touch Screen and Computing System Employing Same” respectively.
The director of firm that handles legal affairs and licensing for Typhoon, Craig Weiner said main reason behind adding Apple and other companies in the suit is to stop unfair exploitation of Typhoon’s IP. He further added alleging companies of selling and manufacturing millions of devices that lead to breaching of the company’s patents. The same allegations were made in the amended complaint.
Typhoon had earlier sued few other companies and in some cases patched up through out-of-court settlement but blown away the settlement talks with defendant Sand Dune Ventures last month.
The company seems to be in no mood to open up the room of preliminary settlement as it is heading for a permanent injunction on the infringement. X |
