Asus expands India operations

Launches Eee box

By Aharon Etengoff in San Francisco @ Wednesday, November 12, 2008 9:49 AM

Asus has announced plans to sell up to 30,000 laptops and netbooks on a monthly basis in India.

Asus corporate VP, Benson CL Lin, also confirmed the expansion of the company's local service centre network from seven to ten facilities. According to Lin, the move will help position the firm as one of the top three laptop and netbook sellers in India.

It should be noted that Asus recently attempted to increase sales in India by launching its Eee Box.

"The Eee Box will help boost the sales in the overall desktop market in India because of the advantages that it provides in terms of size and power saving," explained Asus product manager Stanley Wu.

According to Gopal Swaminathan of Intel South Asia, the Eee Box utilises an Intel Atom N270 (1.6 GHz) processor specifically designed for low power consumption and superior performance.

"This is our smallest processor built with the world’s smallest transistors and a fundamental shift in design, small yet powerful enough to enable a big Internet experience on devices such as the Eee Box," added Swaminathan.  X
