Taiwanese-based Asustek expects to ship up to 800,000 notebook computers during the month of October.
According to Asustek President Jerry Shen, the global financial crisis hasn't affected notebook sales in any discernible way. Indeed, the company reportedly shipped more than 700,000 units in September. "Our feedback from Europe looks optimistic," he said.
Asustek also clarified that the shipment of 800,000 notebooks did not include sales of the widely popular Eee PC. The company has sold over two million of the machines in Europe and estimates it can push out 2.5 million by the end of the year, accounting for nearly a half of its total shipments.
As IT Examiner previously reported, worldwide laptop computer distribution may reach 128 million units in 2008. Jane Tseng, an analyst from the Topology Research Institute in Taipei, increased previous market estimates of 120 million units by almost seven per cent - which signifcantly exceeds last year's notebook shipment figure of 93 million.
