Chip giant Intel expects low-cost computers to hit the market soon after the launch of its low-power processor Atom said a senior official from Intel.
The processor from Intel is specifically designed for compact computers, notebooks and net-tops which will be used to accomplish low-end tasks, such as sending mails, surf net, view photos etc.
R Ravichandran, director, sales, south Asia told reporters: “Atom will power low-cost computers, and will target first time computer users such as school children.”
However, the demand for these low-cost computers will not only be limited to school children as low-cost computer manufacturers are also counting on those who are looking for a second computer.
The demand is likely to come from desktop and laptop owners, the once using desktops will be looking forward for a compact machine that is cost-efficient and will do daily nitty-gritty. And laptop owners who find it difficult to carry their heavy and bulky machine all day will also buy this kind of kit.
HCL and Asus are currently enjoying their swim in the low-cost PC market but with Atom's launch new entrants will compete with the duo. X |
