Australian Defence wants better value from Microsoft - Crikey!

The Australian Department of Defence wants a business partner to get better value from its Microsoft software licensing agreements.

The DoD needs a large account reseller to re-negotiate its contracts with Microsoft and provide new software under a 'head agreement'. If the deal works it could mean a shake up in the way that Microsoft has had to deal with the Australian government.

Any federal Government agency will be able to acquire Microsoft software licences as a separate contract, eliminating the need to tender for the work on their own. It could be good for Microsoft because it would find it easier to sell its software, but it also means that the reseller will have considerable clout to do so at a much lower price.

Coincidently, Microsoft this week named Dell Australia as its account reseller and enterprise software advisor. X
