Bank boss has ID, cash stolen

Karma police

By Dave Murray @ Thursday, August 21, 2008 3:07 PM

HBOS chief executive Andy Hornby has had an ID thief raid his bank account and steal thousands of pounds.

The brazen thief was caught on CCTV withdrawing cash from at least one branch and a cash dispenser. Sheepish staff called Hornby when he was on holiday and told him they were freezing his accounts while fraud investigators work out how much money has been stolen. It seems that the Nigerian thief got his hands on one of Hornby's statements and used it as proof of name and address in a branch.

None of the employees of one of the world's largest banks recognised the name of their CEO. The thief phoned a call centre to open an account with the details but it still didn't click, and he took cash from a hole-in-the-wall machine.

It gives one renewed faith in the concept of karma, does it not? X
