UK megabank Barclays is slashing 1,800 jobs as it plans to open 'centres of excellence' offshore.
The bank announced the plans to staff earlier this year and many of their jobs will be relocated to India, Singapore and Hungary.
At least 700 of the jobs will vanish by September, with the remainder clearing their desks by 2010, reports Computer Weekly.
Barclays was reported as saying that it needed to become fully global, with centrally-managed centres of excellence in key locations around the globe, adding that it would attempt to minimise the impact of the job cuts by cutting back on contractors and temporary staff. X
