There has been an upsurge in the sale of fingerprint scanners in the UK, as British people doubt the effectiveness of passwords.
According to the Scotsman newspaper, sales of computers with the latest ID technology have nearly doubled in the past three months. People are becoming worried about ID fraud and want to safeguard their computers. Retailers claim that one in 14 computers sold now feature fingerprint sensors.
There have been a number of high profile cases where government or company laptops have been stolen and this has highlighted the problem of data falling into the wrong fingers. Analysts think that the fingerprint technology is considered more reliable and easier to handle than a good password. X
