No plans to investigate software giant

The Chinese Government has strongly denied the media reports that state China's State Intellectual Property Office (SIPO) is set to investigate Microsoft for anti-competitive behaviour. The Government refuted the widespread reports, saying the SIPO never got involved in such cases.

In an official statement published by SIPO on its website, SIPO says reports of a Microsoft investigation are false. The statement also mentioned the office is only authorized to investigate and research domestic piracy issues and has no plans to undertake a wider investigation.

Agence-France-Presse (AFP) ,Shanghai Securities News and several other media outlets reported on Wednesday about a SIPO plan to investigate Microsoft for monopolistic practices. The Chinese Government had earlier introduced a new intellectual property law to safeguard the market from being dominated by major players.

Microsoft took a diplomatic stand saying it fully supports China’s efforts to establish an environment conducive to promote fair competition and promise to be in compliance with Chinese law, adding that it was unaware of any investigation by SIPO. X
