The Confederation of Indian Industries (CII) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) to make students more employable, reports PTI.
CII director general Chandrajeet Banerjee and IGNOU registrar Laxman signed the MoU. According to an Indian study, only five per cent of employees from the labour-intensive sector had certification from a reliable institute, compared with other developed countries such as Korea, the US, and the UK where 80 per cent of their employees having certification from a reliable institute.
IGNOU vice chancellor VN Rajasekharan Pillai stated that if the percentage increased to 10 per cent in India, it would double the country’s productivity. He further added that IGNOU had selected CII as a partner with this vision in mind.
The programmes included in the project are in security and fire safety, construction, travel and tourism, personality development and soft skills and spoken English. X
