Cisco and Trend Micro extend partnership

Web security for home networks

By Akanksha Prasad @ Wednesday, February 18, 2009 11:04 AM

Cisco has extended its relationship with internet security outfit Trend Micro by bundling its Linksys range of Wireless N-router with Trend's Web security services.

The new package features safe Web surfing, parental controls, antivirus and user-activity reporting. The purpose is to help detect and neutralize Web threats such as online fraud, scams, phishing schemes, predators, and viruses before they enter the home network. The solution also offers an easy way to manage via Linksys Easy Link Advisor desktop application.

The new package will be available on models such as the WRT310N and WRT610N routers.

According to the company this solution will provide small businesses, educational institutions, branch offices and retailers with a cost-effective way to protect themselves from Web-based threats and enforce acceptable use policies for Web traffic.

The relationship between Trend Micro and Cisco dates back to 2004. In 2006 they teamed up to provide content security offerings for the Cisco Adaptive Security Appliance. Trend Micro became one of Cisco's first Network Admission Control partners. In an agreement in 2007, the companies vowed to work closely on integrating additional content security services into Cisco's routing offerings. The new move has extended the Trend Micro’s services from enterprise to home networks. X
