Computer problem downs Jetstar flights

Thousands affected

By Nick Farrell in Rome @ Monday, October 06, 2008 9:03 AM

Airline company Jetstar's computer check-in system crashed and caused long delays to flights over the holiday weekend.

It is thought that a power outage may have been behind the computer crash, which lasted for about two and a half hours. The airline was forced to cancel 10 flights, but there were huge roll-on delays for passengers travelling over the long weekend. The reason the flights had to be cancelled was because of curfews at some domestic terminals, which meant that the planes could not unload their passengers.

A Jetstar spokeswoman said the airline was "extremely apologetic", and that the company was looking at other carriers, including Qantas, to help get stranded passengers to their destinations.

She said that the timing was unfortunate as it was school holidays and a Sunday, so that most flights were already full. X
