Contract based workforce in demand - Job security is so yesterday

Indian companies have now resorted to temporary and contact based workforce, to ease-up from the economic slowdown.

The past few months has seen a growth of 10-15% in contract based staffing. Companies are meeting the demand for manpower with temporary staff for the simple reason that it ensures flexibility in hiring in terms of employee utilisation, talent and quality of workforce, says Team Lease Services (staffing company) vice-president of temporary staffing Rajesh AR.

The staffing company said, the number of temporary employees have grown from 250,000 this year compared to 175,000 last year. Also, while a few months ago, the average daily positions with the company, which were reported to have dropped to 5,000 from 9,000, have bounced back to 8,500 again.

This option will be viable for the companies, who are forced to cut jobs in a recession. Pick when you need, definitely sounds better than the “hire and fire” trend. X
