D-Link said it's launched a video phone, which has been manufactured in India, reports telcomtiger.

The firm is targeting the small and medium sized enterprises. The company also has hopes of entering the retail segment. The phone is priced at Rs 30,000 ($707.8) and was developed after 18 months and 90,000 man hours.

According to D-Link, the phone can be adjusted to broadband speeds ranging between 128 kbps and 2Mbps. The phone has a built-in 6-inch screen and can be connected to an LCD monitor or TV. D-Link stated that the phone has been tested with service providers in the US and will be offered in the US and South Asia.

The video phone market in India is still in the early stages and is dominated by the video conferencing giants, Polycom and Tandberg. The Indian market is expected to change following the entry of D-Link, which may offer competitive pricing for the phone. X
