DoT defends Blackberry

DoT changes its stance again

By Harsha Pramod @ Thursday, July 10, 2008 12:00 AM

The department of telecommunication (DoT) plans to take help from the home ministry to intercept the Blackberry messages, reported the Economic Times.

A few days back, the department had proclaimed that Blackberry was safe. According to an internal note by the DoT, other than Blackberry, many Internet service providers (ISPs) have their servers outside India. On these grounds, DoT cannot demand that Blackberry shift its server to India.

According to the department, the ISPs  are not at fault, as the terms of the licence mandate that they have to guarantee safe and secure transmission for their  services.  X
