A Web story about a blonde who lost her camera was just guerilla marketing for a porn Web site.
Thousands of people became involved in a search for the mystery blonde woman who lost her camera on holiday, offering suggestions as to who the blonde, whose bikini and underwear snaps were posted on Facebook in a bid to locate her, actually was.
The Facebook entry said: "We are trying to track down the lovely lass in these photos so she can be reunited with her lost digital camera. She certainly knows how to use it!
However, hacks from the Daily Mail, who clearly knew a little too much about the subject, worked out the woman was none other than "Wendy", a model who poses for X-rated pictures on a porn site.
The hacks rang up the porn site which admitted that it was all a "clever viral marketing campaign" which was based on the stupidity of Facebook users.
Since no one knew the existence of the porn site, either before or now, it's hard to see how it worked. X
