Firefox 3 hit by 'highly critical' security breach - Microsoft stifles a giggle

Open source browser Firefox 3 has a security vulnerability rated 'highly critical' by security watchdog Secunia.

The Firefox flaws can be exploited by malicious people to bypass certain security restrictions, potentially conduct spoofing attacks, or compromise a user's system, reports Secunia.

Arbitrary script code can be injected and executed in 'chrome' context, after a specially crafted URI is passed to Firefox even if Firefox is not running.

The flaw will no doubt cause considerable amusement in Redmond as Firefox advocates make much play of the open source browser being infinitely more secure than Microsoft's Internet Explorer. X
