| | Further action against Intel spoils its birthday party - EU throws toys out of its pram By C Shanti @ Friday, July 18, 2008 11:58 AM
Section - PCs/Chips | | | | The European Commission duly issued an edict against Intel yesterday, alleging it had hedged competitor AMD out of major shops by offering discounts in an anti-competitive manner.
This investigation is in addition to an earlier probe by the EC. If it finds against Intel, the chip giant will probably face huge fines which no doubt will pay for champagne and pate foie de gras all round at a Brussels bash.
It is Intel's 40th birthday today, so it's jolly unfair that the Eurocrats have spoilt the event by throwing jelly around the party table and blowing out the candles prematurely.
Sobbed the chip giant: 'We are confident that the worldwide microprocessor market is functioning normally and is highly competitive in Europe and elsewhere. Intel's conduct has always been lawful, pro-competitive and beneficial to consumers. As evidence of the existence of a highly competitive and innovative microprocessor market, consumers have benefited from prices that have gone down significantly, output has increased many times over, and the performance of products, including ours, has improved exponentially.'
And what about the 40 year celebrations? Intel said it has introduced the World Muriel Project, which is capturing 'the vision of young people' on how computers will change our planet over the next 40 years.
The Muriel is here. X
