Game Stop has bought Micromania's 332 locations in France in a bid to get a foothold in Europe's second-largest video game market.
After the $700 million deal is completed, Game Stop will have 5,889 locations worldwide. The company is buying Micromania with cash, as well as loaning $150 million from Bank of America. The EU has to approve the deal, but Game Stop expects everything to be sorted out by November.
It looks like the Micromania name will be relegated to the dustbin of French history, as its stores will be rebranded under the Game Stop name. Game Stop has no stores in France, despite its being a rapidly growing market for computer games. X
