Guru Gobind Singh Indraprastha (GGS I.P.) University, an affiliating and teaching University in Delhi, and the NIS academy, an Asian training, education and learning supplier, have signed a memo of understanding for initiating a three month certificate course in retail.
The collaboration aims to target graduates and the working professionals, who wish to pursue a career in the retail industry eager to make a mark in the flourishing retail industry. The course could be launched by 26 July 2008.
The course will offer training retail selling skills, customer service, soft skills, basics of retailing and retail store standard operational procedures. This venture aims to meet the requirement for a constant supply of trained manpower for the retail industry as there is still a gap between requirement and supply of efficient manpower. This would help the industry as it reduces the need for training.
GGS I.P. University and NIS hope to take advantage of each other’s expertise to provide job oriented training opportunities through this association. As the course is offered during weekends, it is easy for working professionals to improve their retail skills.
India retail segment is the largest in India, with a workforce of 8% and generates over 10% of gross domestic products (GDP). The industry is believed to rise 25% annually because of higher incomes, modern lifestyles and other factors. X
