Giant sticky solar panels unfurled

Solar? Stick it!

IF YOU THINK that solar panels are just too much hassle, you might want to think again. DRI Companies’ subsidiary, Lumeta, has come up with a simple “peel off and stick on” model for solar roof panels, which, by the look of things, takes negligible time to put down.

Instead of heavy solar racks that need to be drilled and hammered into place, Lumeta seems to be offering giant sticker like solar sheets, which stick to roofs with only very basic roof adhesive. The company reckons that using the stick on solar panels would significantly slash Balance of Systems (BOS) costs, by up to 70%, not to mention hours of installation time wasted hammering away on a roof.

According to the company, the front part of the sheet is made up of Teflon (think non stick frying pans), whilst the back is made up of fibreglass reinforced plastic (FRP).Each panel is about 2.4 metres long and 1.2 metres wide and doesn’t weigh all that much (approx 2.5 kgs to a square metre). Peak power, according to DRI stats currently stands at about 380 Wp.

Sadly for any solar lovers out there, the panels are currently only being sold to businesses and commercial projects, so it might be a little while before you’ll be able to pop down to the shops and buy up a whole load of them to plaster all over your abode. Still, sunny days ahead, eh?

See this YouTube video to see the sticky solar panels being laid. X
