Google most popular in India

Yahoo, Microsoft plain uninteresting

Comscore revealed figures for the Indian search market today. The results are very impressive, yet only for search engine megazilla Google, which garnered 81.4% of all online searches in India.

In total, netizens performed 1,011 million searches  via Google, of a total of 1,242 million searches. Needless to say, Yahoo and Microsoft did very poorly in comparison. Yahoo managed to grab 9.4% of the share, followed by Ask Network with 1.9%. Microsoft had to make do with fourth place and a mere 1.7% of all searches in India. Indian portal Rediff.com did even worse and only hugged 1.5% of all searches.

To make the discrepancies more obvious - whilst over a billion searches were made over Google, Yahoo only was perused 117 million times, Ask 24 million, Microsoft 22 million and Rediff.com a lowly 18 million times.

People in India use search engines less often than users in other countries. Comscore marks an average of 93 searches per month for the 37 countries it covers. India is second to last, counting 53 searches per month.

Comscore spokesscore Jack Flanagan said that the market shows 'substantial room for growth among
the local Internet brands.' X
