Google’s city block project may restart

Virtual Street View on the cards again for India

Google’s city block project may not have been appreciated in most European countries, but the company still hopes to launch its virtual Street View in India.

The company was working on this project in India, but scrapped it for unknown reasons. A source close to the company said: “The company is planning to restart the shelved “city block” project in India. A group of five camera men driven by five drivers will shoot the Indian cities and present a video comprising the city roads and important locations.”

The question is whether India will allow the project to go ahead. The European Union’s data protection supervisor has already warned Google that it needs to adhere to European privacy laws if it launches its Street View map and imaging feature in Europe. X
