The Indian Government may soon be able to intercept messages sent between Blackberries. According to the Economic Times, Cain Technology and SS8 Networks will demonstrate their interception equipment to the Department of Telecommunications and the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
If the Indian government finds the demonstrations meet requirements, the government plans to install the interception technology on Indian mobile networks offering Blackberry services as quickly as possible. The DoT may also backtrack on its proposal to allow RIM to set up servers in India, says the Times.
The two companies are both based in California. Cain Technology is from San Jose and specialises in RF, microwave, millimetre-wave, broadband, wireless, telecommunications, radar, electronic-warfare, space-based communications and fibre optic systems.
SS8 Networks, based in Milpitas, produces what it describes as 'regulatory-compliant electronic surveillance solutions', aimed at ensuring that intercepted traffic is securely targeted, seized, stored, transferred and analyzed. The company claims its voice and data installations can intercept more than 500 million subscribers, and supply information to 10,000 law enforcement agents. SS8 is also the supplier of the US Government's phone-tapping equipment. X |
