US economy crisis no threat

By Harsha Pramod @ Friday, September 19, 2008 12:34 PM

HCL Technologies is considering acquisitions worth about 9,200 crore ($2 billion) in the US and plans to close the deals by 2011, reports the Business Standard.

HCL has also recognized eight focus areas including engineering services, enterprise application, infrastructure management and enterprise transformation services. HCL has planned an acquisition strategy of 3-fold including smaller buyouts in the range of $100 million and less targeted at buying firms that bring intellectual property. Its recent acquisitions like Capital Stream, Liberata Financial Services and Control Point Solutions belong to this category.

The company is also considering companies in Japan and Germany as part of its second level of growth strategy, which aims to expand its geographic reach. In addition to these, HCL is also planning major acquisitions that it refers to as “transformation acquisitions”.

Vineet Nayar, CEO, HCL Technologies said that the next two years would be crucial for HCL Technologies because of research and search for acquisitions. The company has cash assets of $580 million. Nayar added that HCL was not in risk from the impact of the US economy crisis. He stated that the reduction in discretionary expenditure and increasing number of deals needs to correspond in order to increase the outsourcing component. X
