A number of Hollywood studios is set to licence online sensitometric quality control technology from Alpha Imaging Systems.

According to inventor Ujwal Nirgudkar, the new process signifcantly improves "current offline quality control using sensitometric strips to a new online control system, which will have the sensitometric strip between the perforations of the picture film."

Nirgudkar explained that the cost-saving technology had the potential of becoming the "industry standard" and noted that he was in talks with "some Hollywood post-production companies and one European company."

As IT Examiner previously reported, the Indian government has taken several notable steps to bolster the rapidly expanding film and animation sectors. Indeed, New Delhi recently announced plans to establish a visual effects and animation training centre for aspiring artists. The centre is slated to receive a sizeable grant from the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting. Additional funding will be provided by a future stakeholding partner.

The government has also allocated funds for the National Film Development Corporation and plans to assist in the rennovation of Satyajit Ray Film & Television institute. X
