Dell has commissioned major Taiwanese manufacturer Hon Hai to crank up production of business notebooks at year end, but continues to use other original design manufacturers (ODMs) for notebooks for the masses.

According to the Taiwan Economic News, Dell will use Compal to put together a $299 notebook called the E-Series in August, undercutting Acer's more expensive Aspire One.

Compal, Hon Hai, Wistron and Quanta are firms who make notebooks for multinational companies like Dell and HP as well as for smaller firms and distributors worldwide. X
