IBM introduces three AMD "Barcelona" servers

Boost for chip maker

By Examiner Staff @ Wednesday, May 28, 2008 5:56 AM

AMD got a boost as IBM announced it had released three high end servers using its quad processor 'Barcelona' microprocessors.

The much delayed AMD chips have thwarted AMD's plans to keep up with its much larger competitor, the Intel Corporation.

The servers IBM introduced are the X3455 which supports 48GB of memory, the X3655 which supports 64GB of memory, and the X3755, which supports 128GB of memory, according to Computerworld.

Big Blue will roll out the servers during the month of June, and is offering the capability to add CPUs as they go along. X
