All of us have been seen the television commercial where IBM executives are confidently talking about energy saving initiatives. And now IBM, as a consumer of services, plans to bring down the time lag and increase employee efficiency by offering its employees the chance to work from home.
Speaking at the Green IT event at Bangalore, Dravida Seetharam, Vice President-Government Programs, IBM told to IT Examiner that in next five to six months about 15-20 per cent of its workforce would work from home. He said, “We would provide more communication and networking facilities to the employees. It would also be a good option of providing higher salary packages in compensation of the energy–savings done on their part.”
According to Seetharam, starting with the sales and the marketing team, this provision will be available to all the positions that require constant movement. This would add additional 10 per cent of the savings to the company.
Apart from this, the server and storage major poses to save another eight to nine percent of energy consumption through new lighting and cooling technology in its offices and working on smaller factors like the shutting down and hibernation of PCs. X
