Students at the Indian Institute of Management in Ahmedabad (IIM-A) are to assist members of parliament by developing a web-based electronic interface to help MPs handle complaints more efficiently.
The information and communication technology (ICT) system will allow citizens to register their complaints through an interactive voice response system (IVRS) and receive feedback from the relevant department. The project, dubbed “Connect with Leaders”, will also help MPs handle complaints more efficiently and aid efficient follow-up.
Initially, the students will analyse areas of discontent and develop a communication channel to link MPs with their respective constituencies. The medium for communication may be telephone, mobile phone or internet. The students will opt for a communication medium that is accessible. The system will be designed for three MPs and, depending on its success, will be adopted by Parliament.
Until recently, foreign companies have been able to pick the best brains from IIMs. However, this year, Indian companies may get to hire them. Because of the global financial crisis, students of IIMs are believed to be shifting towards traditional management streams such as marketing, HR and consulting instead of finance.
Many students are said to be considering stable companies in the country in preference to a foreign company. IIT students are hoping that things will turn out well as the placement season is nearing. X
