India readies moon mission shot

In October

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) will launch an unmanned rocket to the moon between October 19th and the 28th.

The lunar mission, dubbed the Chandrayaan I, will conduct scientific tests and holds six Indian and six foreign instruments.

Picture courtesy NASAIt will map the surface of the moon in 3D as well as testing for chemicals and other scientific data. The rocket carrying the payload, which weighs 1,300 kilogrammes, will reach the moon in eight days.

The rocket used to power the mission is the Polar Satellite Launch Vehicle, with the cost of this mission $83 million. X
