Indian auto industry loses people to IT

IT wants auto engineers to sharpen their designing skills

According to a report by NASSCOM and Booz Allen Hamilton, the Indian automotive vertical will be $1.8 billion by 2010 which could grow to $8 billion by 2020. The growth of automotive vertical is propelled by IT companies who have hiring auto engineers exuberantly to sharpen their design.

The Economic Times reported Sangeeta Gupta, NASSCOM vice-president saying a lot of smaller IT companies are getting into engineering and automotive component design.

The attrition rate in original equipment manufacturers (OEMs) and auto component manufacturers has shot up. IT companies are luring auto engineers. In big OEMs, the rate  is 15%, whereas in smaller OEMs, it can be as high as 25%. X
