An unidentified Indian hacker is believed to have helped a criminal gang to steal identities of nearly eight million people amounting to more than 2.8 billion pounds, reports theEconomic Times.

An unidentified Indian hacker is believed to have successfully cracked open the website of UK's Best Western Hotel group's online booking system. The hacker allegedly sold the information to Russian mafia. It is not known how the incident was traced to an Indian or whether the hotel chain is aware of the incident.

Personal details of all the customers who has booked into one of the hotel group’s chain of hotels since 2007, which included home addresses, telephone numbers, credit card details and place of employment, was stolen.

Although there is a large volume of hacked data for sale on the Internet, the incident stands out due to large volume and quality of information stolen. According to experts, there is enough data to start a major crime wave in Europe. X
