The Indian postal service is going for an image makeover. A Raja, the minister of communications and IT, will launch the new corporate logo in New Delhi. The minister of state for communications and IT, Jyotiraditya Scindia, will be the guest of honour.
The department has already launched "Project Arrow" to improve the look of post offices in rural areas. The project aims to rejuvenate the post office network and give it a larger role in the socio-economic development of India. Modern post offices are intended to function as a window to the world for ordinary people by focusing on their needs. By the end of the current year, the government plans to launch 500 such post offices in the country and states that adherence to deadlines is part of the plan.
According to government, the post offices are being revamped both in terms of physical look and feel and improvement in service through IT-enabled procedures. In addition to a new logo, a new slogan, designs for exteriors and interiors, upgradation of computer hardware and software, improvement in delivery of services and upgradation in connectivity are the key features of the project.
The rural post offices will work as a single window for banking, money remittance, transmission and delivery of information. Post offices will also be an important part of all social and civic initiatives such as the national rural employment guarantee scheme and national old age pension scheme. The focus is on developing a beneficial and friendly work environment for both staff and customers. X
