Infosys Technologies expects high growth from special economic zones (SEZs) and has plans to set up more SEZs, reports the Hindu.
Infosys has set up SEZs in Chandigarh, Hyderabad, Jaipur, Mysore, and Pune, and has SEZs in Mangalore and Thiruvananthapuram in the pipeline.
In the current fiscal year, the company has allotted a budget of Rs 1,100 crore ($252m) to set up centres all over the country and Rs 1,000 crore ($229m) will be invested in SEZs. In 2007, Infosys had invested Rs 400 crore ($91m) in the SEZs, out of a budget of Rs 1,150 crore ($263m).
Infosys has increased its investment in SEZs expecting the elimination of software technology parks of India norms by 2010. The SEZ centre in Mahindra City, on the periphery of Chennai, is considered the largest SEZ centre. Infosys had occupied a total land of about 129 acres, and had built a 11,234-seat capacity in 2.1 million sq. ft. in the first phase. Work on the second phase will begin by September this year. X |
