Semiconductor chip giant Intel is soon likely to come up with low-cost WiMax-ready laptops which would be priced at around $300 - $400 (16000-0000 INR).
Intel has been reportedly working with PC makers like Dell, Acer and Asus to bring down the cost. Intel India managing director for WiMax, C S Rao has told PTI that Intel is looking forward to launch the laptops in the Indian market very soon.
With this low-cost segment of laptops, the company is eyeing the urban as well as rural markets. In the wake of a revolutionized and booming Indian telecom industry, Intel expects the Indian WiMax market to mushroom to $484 million in the next three years. Moreover, 3G services would help in going further up. India has been reportedly growing by 6-7 million wireless subscribers every month and Intel is optimistic about signing up seven to eight per cent of WiMax subscribers.
Rao confidently said that two-three million subscribers would be added in a short span of two months. Dipping tariff rates and rising competition among the operators can drive the users positively mad but it also owes to lowest average revenue per user. X |
