Intel releases Montevina for notebooks - Centrino 2 is go

After a delay of around five weeks, Intel has released Centrino 2, its notebook platform codenamed Montevina.

The chipset caused the delay – Intel originally intended to announce this product around the time of the Computex trade show.

The Intel announcements will include the Penryn Core 2 Duo processor which uses a 45 nanometre process. The chipset that goes with this microprocessor is the Intel Mobile 4 Express, which comes with flash memory caching or “Turbo” memory, and has options for mobile WiMAX support. Mobile WiMAX, it seems, is still some way away.

A number of notebook manufacturers will roll out machines using Montevina, ready for the “back to school” market in September. Processor speeds of the Core 2 Duo will be as high as 3.06GHz. X
