Is Premji not at the helm of Wipro's affairs? - At least, say something!

It was an out of the normal Azim Premji in a press meet at Wipro Bangalore centre today. The senior management flocked to declare Wipro’s quarterly results (Q1) along with the billionaire Wipro Chairman. Premji kept mum to the press meet apart from the formal announcement. The presence of Azim Premji and his nine senior colleagues managed to pull in journalists from electronic, online and print media at the press meet in the first hour.

Premji entered the hall with his gang to address the press on Wipro’s Q1 results. As expected, he started the proceedings with the formal announcement of the first quarter results followed by the CFO Senapathy’s scripted speech. There was nothing new in the slides and the couple of speeches as all the journalists present there were given the document beforehand.

The most interesting session was the Q&A minutes with the press. The press was shooting heap of questions to the officials and none of those remained unanswered except the questions shot at the charismatic Premji.

On several instances, journalists from different media houses specifically have put the questions to Premji but the Wipro boss diverted those to his obedient colleagues sitting on the stage.

Premji even sounded irritated when a couple of journalists voiced their queries without the microphone.

Apart from the announcement, the words Premji spoke were countable. He did not even answer a single question.

At last, Premji walked away from the press conference along with his colleague, T K Kurien. But the conference continued with CFO Suresh Senapathy replying the most.

So, what is it that worrying him? Is it the day-long involvement or the caution in the near-term that arose from the present environment or or are we reading too much?

These questions to be answered. X
