Section - Telecoms/Mobile | | | | Despite long queues and activation problems, Apple has achieved a sales record of one million Iphones in the first three days since the new model was launched in last Friday.
Chief executive Steve Jobs avoided commenting publicly on the the software problems that were found after the launch. New users flooded Appleās servers as they tried to activate their new Iphones with the upgraded software just after its launch.
Jobs said that it took 74 days to sell the first one million original Iphones, adding that the new Iphone 3G was clearly off to a great start around the world.
During its first weekend, Iphone and Ipod touch customers downloaded more than 10 million applications from the new App Store. The groundbreaking App Store now has more than 800 native applications, including over 200 offered for free and more than 90 per cent available for less than $10.
Users worldwide should not forget that even the 2007 launch was plagued with problems. Some customers had terrible experiences activating their original Iphone, with Apple failing to respond to calls or e-mails. X
